Witch Routes/For MJK (A New Song That I'm Really Proud Of)

I'm almost done with 97 and the album art is above.
Here's the second song off of the recently re-titled album 97: Witch Routes. The song is called 'Mary Sings At One A.M. And Rain Can Still Be Heard (For Mary J. Kelly)' and I'm really really proud of it. It's the closet I've come to making a song in anyway similar to the works of Philip Glass or Steve Reich. I play the acoustic guitar, tuned percussion, clarinet and violin on the track (though the guitar doesn't completely sound like a guitar. Here's the song:

and for a reference point this is Philip Glass:

Here's another new track and yes, I have a tumblr now

First, here's some Agnes Martin for you (she's a god, completely untouchable).

In fact, if you mostly use that it could be easier to follow this (or lead you in circles) as these posts are automatically fed there. Here's the new song using wind-chimes (it's from album 95, home)

It's (tumblr) been a great tool for lifting spirits and little reminders of artistic inspiration. For those who are in anyway interested you can find me at:

Album 92: Finished In A Day And Here For You To Download

DAYS RUN AWAY XCII: IMPROVISATIONS
1.) Improvisations No. 1 (19:45)
2.) Improvisations No. 2 (14:12)

The songs were too big to post individually. These tracks are based out of improvised guitar playing. Well, to be more accurate, one very long improvised piece, cut up slightly and only reedited through a bit of reverb (a lot of reverb in track one), and synched over each other to avoid an incredible length (and for other artistic reasons). I also cut out two phone calls because I'm an idiot and forgot to turn off my cellphone.

Download the album here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?jdiewyygbju

Since I Can't upload the songs, here's a raw 10 minute segment as I fiddle fuck around with the 'direct upload from webcam' feature on youtube:

Autoharp AND CLARINET?

Rowing/Lakes, the third song off of the previous record, album 71: Dwimor.
Now that I re-listen to this track, I've found that I'm more proud of it than I originally thought. It flows in a way that a few of mine don't. There are some squeaks in it, but who cares.

And to keep up with what I've been listening, I've been jumping around between my love of the classic
Sweetheart of the Rodeo, and Hüsker Dü & Black Flag

The Byrds

Hüsker Dü

And I'm pretty sure I will never ever understand why people love Steely Dan the way they do.

The Blue Hour, album Sixty Four: And thank you everyone

I've started to get quite a few random comments on my music so, before I go any further, thank you to everyone who's listening!

Anyway, I've been moving as of late and my brain's still all over the place. I have, however, happily completed sixty-three and am now moving onto sixty four.

The name of the record is Days Run Away LXIV: The Blue Hour.

Here's the album art:

The name of the track is 'No Phones (The Woods No. 1)' and is composed utilizing clips of answering machine feedback. I feel as though this track is my most effectively creepy/atmospheric track yet. Mutt_r is going well, albeit slowly for me, due to my big move.

Thanks again everyone.

62/Wolves/Other/New Video

Here's another song off of album 62, now titled Wolves. The song's called Woolf. Im moving into my new place soon so I've been a bit scattered and I fear my music may have suffered because of it.
No worries though. Once I move, I'm sure it'll fall back into place again.

Im also in something of a new band. More updates on that later.

Recently, I've been poking around the blogs of my fellow students. It's sad to see a recent trend in this vague, self serving notion of charitable social awareness. There's a constant theme of 'I have so little but it pains me to see you'. First, I will not dodge the bullet that I live comfortably. I do. Very much so. This is also due to my parents unending care which I do, after seeing and experiencing the parents of others, truly feel blessed for having. Anyway, this incredibly shallow attempt to make one seem more worldly/concerned by smugly pointing out when they felt they could spare a pocket of change and when they couldn't has become truly frustrating. If you're going to act concerned, be concerned. Now, I'm not saying that everyone should devote their paychecks to charity. I understand that it is & can be hard to spare anything at times. I'm just asking for a bit of humility. Waxing philosophically about the woes of center city Philadelphia (which, mind you, is fucking heaven compared to the outer reaches of northern or western Philly, not to mention many other cities which are far worse off nationally, or internationally) will do nothing to change it. If you really want to do something, cut out the name brand products you buy. Donate. Go to protests. And get the notion out of your head that passively being liberal doesn't make you a better person, because it never will.

For those who don't know, I've been challenging myself with a little experiment. Since January of last year, I've recorded at least one song every other day in an attempt to make up some kind of musical journal of sorts. The name of the project is Days Run Away, which comes from a poem/book of poetry by Charles Bukowski. The name of my band is Swimmingpool The Band. Since I began, I've recorded up to 58 albums (I'm currently in the middle of 59). For every ten or so, I compile them into a more accessible collection.

The Songs range from straight out ambient-drone to more involved post-rock pieces. And though they may be heavily processed, they consist almost entirely of guitar, piano, clarinet and cello.
The following collection compiles my favorite tracks from albums 46 through 58. Two tracks feature outside help on the cello (Swans No. 2 and The Bay at Dawn) from my friend Diana Palermo.

In the past, feedback has ranged from:
'this is great studying music'
'this is great to get high to'
'it sounds like (any one of the following) Vangelis, The Silent Hill Soundtrack, Mist soundtrack, Brian Eno and Stars Of The Lid'
and 'I wish you wouldn't sing sometimes, It's distracting'.
To those concerned about the latter criticism, I don't sing nearly as much on this as I have in the past.

As always, I look forward to any and all feedback/criticisms.

Once my laptop is returned, I'll get to posting the new tracks from album 60 and 61.

Cellos!

Album 38 has changed now to Widow's Walk, and features tracks performed by my friend, fellow artist and Celloist Diana Palermo (Who's works in Printmaking and Fiber art can be found at http://myparasolisyourparasol.blogspot.com/).

I'm extremely happy with the pieces done so far and I look forward to collaborations in the future.

Zachary Macero's twenty-one years of life consisted of calculated breaths. From birth, the conservation of every minute was premeditated and precise, fitting into his philosophy of "every second counts". In his moments of self-concious meditation, he realized that this way of thinking was contradicted by the idea of spontaneity which frequently lead him to envy those who could live for every second and manage to be so free thinking.
Regardless of his doubts, Zachary continued to live his life this way, always rushing from task to task, effortlessly resolving any outside variables.
On the morning following his return from college, he lifted his small and thin frame out of bed and into the kitchen. He prepared a small breakfast and found a note that his mother had left him.

'Dear Zach, We hope you slept well last night. Your father and I figured that after your long trip, you wouldn't want to wake up and go to church with us. We should be back sometime around two. In the mean time, make yourself some breakfast but remember that we want to have a nice sit-down family dinner tonight. If you're going to go out, make sure you bring your phone. Love, Mom and Dad.
P.S.
If you're not doing anything today, you should probably call Beth at some point. She asks about you a lot and is such a nice girl.'

Beth had been Zachary's ex since he went off to college. Like many of his peers from college, Beth chose to stick it out at home and attend a community college.
Following a quick search of his bedroom, he realized that he had left his cell-phone in the basement where he was last with his father watching the Islanders loose their spot in the Stanley Cup race. When he reached the basement, the TV was still on and reporting on the five year anniversary of a boy who had gone missing in the local state park for fifteen years. Realizing that the day was without agenda, Zachary thought of the park and decided to go for a run.

And here we are with

The first song off of Days Run Away XII. The title of this record is Days Run Away XII: W.Y.W.A.W.. It consists of two songs, each divided into smaller songs (each songs clocks in at 15-20 minutes). This first track is one part of Days Run Away: W.Y.W.A.W. (In Three Movements) [sub titled W.Y.W.A.G.]).
Here, I'm utilizing a bit more tuned percussion, though synthesized, I've made the attempt to make sure it doesn't sound too clean in contrast to the other instruments.
Anyway, gauge it for yourself.
The working album art is a combination of two photographs by my Collaborator at urbanaesthete, Alexey Sokolin.

Here Is The Song!

So it seems that a lot of people…

…have been doing top album lists. Many of which have been predictable (in a good or bad way), or have lined up with mine. I, however, would like to submit my top albums on a span of all years. This is gauged on how much I currently listen to an album, it's influence on my tastes, on my music and how much of an emotional attachment I have to the record.

1. Boards Of Canada-Music Has The Right To Children
2. The Beach Boys-Sunflower
3. Big Star-3d/Sister Lover
4. Neil Young-Harvest

48. Boards of Canada-Geogaddi
49. Radiohead-OK Computer
50. Bruce Springsteen-Born To Run

Yes, there is no Beatles, Led Zeppelin or Jimi Hendrix. No, the velvet underground did not make this list (they make the early bottom fifty) after reevaluating how much I still listen to them and the influence that they've sustained. Remember, the full top 100 is only 100 out of the hundreds of records that I've already listened to. That's an awkward sentence, fuck it.

Oh and....

Not a lot to really discuss today

Well, having recently discovered that there's a great number of people who search out music through youtube, I figured I'd slap together a video to accompany my music. Then I realized I had little time to actually Shoot a video. I then figured I'd make something of a montage utilizing fount footage. That's when I found this clip of one of my favorite creatures, the Snowy Owl. The sequence is beautiful and I altered very little from the original. Some may find it as boring as the music but, well, there's my attraction to minimalism for you.

Days Run Away IV: We Were Beautiful Is Completed At 30:41

Here is the final track from the album. It's entitled Days Run Away VIII: We Were Beautiful (No. 6/The End Of Everything We Knew). I guess it's the closest track to being listenably non-subjective as it's a sadder piece. Regardless, I hope you enjoy. Days Run Away V will begin now. No set title beyond Days Run Away V. Keep your eyes and ears open. (OH and feedback would be awesome).

Outline/Lull

There's a lull today. Hell, there's a lull this whole weekend that's giving me this dense and unnerving sensation that I can't seem to totally shake. The really hard academic punch will soon make contact and I'm not looking forward to it. The challenge within said punch, however, is quite exciting. Hopefully, my teacher will choose my idea for a documentary. If that's the case, I'll finally get to produce a full work that I could be proud of. I have my fingers crossed for that.
