Perfect Dogs: Two new songs from the collection "Perfect Bijon"

There's not much to go into about the title here. Phonetically and visually, the concept of the perfect Bijon is a docile, if not pleasant one. It's warm, personable and all together pleasing as I hope the song will be.

The song is another textured and flickering wash of guitars, keys, production and clarinet. It's the title track of my 169th collection of songs (album, ep, mini-album or whatever).

There's a softness to this one that's been absent from the previous few postings. I hope you enjoy it.

As always, feel free to download or reblogg it. All of my music is/always will be (unless someone commissions something like an OST, but you get what I'm saying)!

"Perfect Dachshund" is the second song off of 'Perfect Bijon'. It is, in a way, warmer, more textured and far more rhythmic than the previous track. It features an anchoring rhythm which started as a manually played electric piano part that I played for two measures and looped (subsequently processing and editing throughout the duration of the song).

Backing this is a repetitive (slowly building) clarinet part (three or four in all) and a processed guitar improv. The song, in an aesthetic way similar to the previous one, attempts to find a warm and pleasant, all the while still emotionally engaging, atmosphere. Nostalgic escapism. Or just a smile.

From Morning And Protection (Three New Songs from Two Albums)

THE FOLLOWING three songs are from two albums, 155 (protection) & 156 (morning). The album art for Protection is posted above. The album art for Morning will come with the next post from that album. Stream here, download through the link and let me know what you all think.

‘Girl Flower’ is probably one of my ‘loosest’ songs. Built mostly around a subtle and flickering loop of keys and guitar, the song folds, unfolds and folds again into something of a nice coda. It’s a soft, quiet, less than dramatic song which is not typical on reflection (as my songs typically seem to pray on melodrama).

Click here to Download Girl Flower

So this one’s strange as it’s essentially part two of a song that has a part one on the previous album (Train Station no. 1 is on Protection, my 155th album). This song is an attempt at experimenting with an older method of chop and paste wherein I take a full length track, this one had consisted mostly of violins and clarinets, and rearranging them into a rhythm and structure.

If for any reason the streaming file isn’t working, click the title and it’ll bring you to tindeck where the song is hosted. Sometimes, tumblr’s an ass. Tonight, as an example, the version remains ‘too large’ to upload (being longer than, oh, 8 minutes). When posting a link to stream by, it sometimes dies out so again, if you have any real problems, click on the title and let me know.

Here’s yet another new acoustic guitar/lyric/vocal (hell arguably more structured) song. I’ve actually included the lyrics and they’re in a lot of ways more audible than normal. The album its off of is 155, which has been finished for a week I just forgot to post this one.

I’m very proud of the pre-reverb towards the songs climax (along with the looping in the coda). I actually don’t mind the lyrics, which is rare as I’m often quite insecure about that.

I really hope you enjoy! The lyrics are posted below. To download the song, click the title above.

Use anchors to catch storms
speak in flags and braile
marry only orphans or widows

Laugh only with widows
and fast on odd numbered days
Perfect personal prayer

surgical prayers

learn about protection (repeat)

Collect young lover’s hair
collect the marrow and diamonds
and break and make it all
into circles on your bed

Bend the road to fit the route
Read by moonlight and sleep
only when the stars hide

stars hide in diamonds and veils
marrow and hair
the skin on your face

learn about protection (repeat)

save yourself

Witch Routes/For MJK (A New Song That I'm Really Proud Of)

I'm almost done with 97 and the album art is above.
Here's the second song off of the recently re-titled album 97: Witch Routes. The song is called 'Mary Sings At One A.M. And Rain Can Still Be Heard (For Mary J. Kelly)' and I'm really really proud of it. It's the closet I've come to making a song in anyway similar to the works of Philip Glass or Steve Reich. I play the acoustic guitar, tuned percussion, clarinet and violin on the track (though the guitar doesn't completely sound like a guitar. Here's the song:

and for a reference point this is Philip Glass:

Here's another new track and yes, I have a tumblr now

First, here's some Agnes Martin for you (she's a god, completely untouchable).

In fact, if you mostly use that it could be easier to follow this (or lead you in circles) as these posts are automatically fed there. Here's the new song using wind-chimes (it's from album 95, home)

It's (tumblr) been a great tool for lifting spirits and little reminders of artistic inspiration. For those who are in anyway interested you can find me at:

Album 92: Finished In A Day And Here For You To Download

DAYS RUN AWAY XCII: IMPROVISATIONS
1.) Improvisations No. 1 (19:45)
2.) Improvisations No. 2 (14:12)

The songs were too big to post individually. These tracks are based out of improvised guitar playing. Well, to be more accurate, one very long improvised piece, cut up slightly and only reedited through a bit of reverb (a lot of reverb in track one), and synched over each other to avoid an incredible length (and for other artistic reasons). I also cut out two phone calls because I'm an idiot and forgot to turn off my cellphone.

Download the album here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?jdiewyygbju

Since I Can't upload the songs, here's a raw 10 minute segment as I fiddle fuck around with the 'direct upload from webcam' feature on youtube:

Album 89 (ACOUSTICGUITARS):There was one drawback from septa strike

…I didnt get to see the Hidden Cameras :( Here's some album art:

And before I go into anything else, this is awesome:

Anyway, new song from the new album Days Run Away LXXXIX: Memitim. The song is called Grasshoppers and prominently features acoustic guitars! The album art's posted above.
Here's the song:

Go get the new Hidden Cameras Record, it's really good.
Here's proof (note: I know, not all clips are from the new one):

I'm also really dissapointed in myself for not listening to more Spoon. I don't know why I ignored them before. They could possibly be one of the most cool, and overwhelmingly talented, american bands out there today.

The Blue Hour, album Sixty Four: And thank you everyone

I've started to get quite a few random comments on my music so, before I go any further, thank you to everyone who's listening!

Anyway, I've been moving as of late and my brain's still all over the place. I have, however, happily completed sixty-three and am now moving onto sixty four.

The name of the record is Days Run Away LXIV: The Blue Hour.

Here's the album art:

The name of the track is 'No Phones (The Woods No. 1)' and is composed utilizing clips of answering machine feedback. I feel as though this track is my most effectively creepy/atmospheric track yet. Mutt_r is going well, albeit slowly for me, due to my big move.

Thanks again everyone.

62/Wolves/Other/New Video

Here's another song off of album 62, now titled Wolves. The song's called Woolf. Im moving into my new place soon so I've been a bit scattered and I fear my music may have suffered because of it.
No worries though. Once I move, I'm sure it'll fall back into place again.

Im also in something of a new band. More updates on that later.

Recently, I've been poking around the blogs of my fellow students. It's sad to see a recent trend in this vague, self serving notion of charitable social awareness. There's a constant theme of 'I have so little but it pains me to see you'. First, I will not dodge the bullet that I live comfortably. I do. Very much so. This is also due to my parents unending care which I do, after seeing and experiencing the parents of others, truly feel blessed for having. Anyway, this incredibly shallow attempt to make one seem more worldly/concerned by smugly pointing out when they felt they could spare a pocket of change and when they couldn't has become truly frustrating. If you're going to act concerned, be concerned. Now, I'm not saying that everyone should devote their paychecks to charity. I understand that it is & can be hard to spare anything at times. I'm just asking for a bit of humility. Waxing philosophically about the woes of center city Philadelphia (which, mind you, is fucking heaven compared to the outer reaches of northern or western Philly, not to mention many other cities which are far worse off nationally, or internationally) will do nothing to change it. If you really want to do something, cut out the name brand products you buy. Donate. Go to protests. And get the notion out of your head that passively being liberal doesn't make you a better person, because it never will.

For those who don't know, I've been challenging myself with a little experiment. Since January of last year, I've recorded at least one song every other day in an attempt to make up some kind of musical journal of sorts. The name of the project is Days Run Away, which comes from a poem/book of poetry by Charles Bukowski. The name of my band is Swimmingpool The Band. Since I began, I've recorded up to 58 albums (I'm currently in the middle of 59). For every ten or so, I compile them into a more accessible collection.

The Songs range from straight out ambient-drone to more involved post-rock pieces. And though they may be heavily processed, they consist almost entirely of guitar, piano, clarinet and cello.
The following collection compiles my favorite tracks from albums 46 through 58. Two tracks feature outside help on the cello (Swans No. 2 and The Bay at Dawn) from my friend Diana Palermo.

In the past, feedback has ranged from:
'this is great studying music'
'this is great to get high to'
'it sounds like (any one of the following) Vangelis, The Silent Hill Soundtrack, Mist soundtrack, Brian Eno and Stars Of The Lid'
and 'I wish you wouldn't sing sometimes, It's distracting'.
To those concerned about the latter criticism, I don't sing nearly as much on this as I have in the past.

As always, I look forward to any and all feedback/criticisms.

Once my laptop is returned, I'll get to posting the new tracks from album 60 and 61.

firstly
the LAST song from album 48 entitled summer lights.

Now for some shreds. It always cheers me up.

New Song: Hi Juan

Another song off of Widow's Walk. Called Maps, Based off of one of my favorite films of all time: Breakfast At Tiffany's.
Go watch it if you haven't.

So this is album 40

I've made it to 40 albums and I feel like the music's slowly getting better.
For this song I was inspired by the idea (brought up to me by e. rega) of using bad materials to make something beautiful. This was made with a dollar store recorder and I couldn't be happier with it.

Oh and, Considering that School is starting up again

and I'm not sure how often I'll be able to post, I'll throw in another song while my workload is light. Here is the second song from album 38, also featuring Cellist Diana Palermo entitled Widow's Walk Movement 3 (Swelling Waves).

This is the album art for Days Run Away XXXVIII: Widow's Walk

Cellos!

Album 38 has changed now to Widow's Walk, and features tracks performed by my friend, fellow artist and Celloist Diana Palermo (Who's works in Printmaking and Fiber art can be found at http://myparasolisyourparasol.blogspot.com/).

I'm extremely happy with the pieces done so far and I look forward to collaborations in the future.

Where I am

Rarely will I make these entries in anyway personal, However, I figured I might as well rattle off my most recent influences beyond sports.

Before that, here's the new song: D.R.A. III: Reflections Of The Water In The House Moved Before Us

Literary:
As one may have already figured out, I'm a huge fan of Charles Bukowski. Having read even more of his work I can confidently recommend just about any of his publications to those who are not yet familiar.

Books that I'm reading now or have read in the past month or two:

The Qur'an:
A truly beautiful work. Truth be told, and I hardly make reference to this, I am a Christian. However, I do find it extremely important to read and better understand this work/faith as a whole.
For anyone who would rather not pay: http://www.usc.edu/schools/college/crcc/engagement/resources/texts/muslim/quran/

The Book of Enoch
A brilliant, pre-christian, prophetical (and eventually gnostic) text covering a great deal of fallen angles and various other judeo-christian myths.

Mockingbird Wish Me Luck by Charles Bukowski:
A brilliant collection of early poetry.

…………and I'm now reading………

Gravity's Rainbow by Thomas Pynchon

North by Louis-Ferdinand Céline

…and now, the music…

To make it known, I'm not going to go too heavily into why these albums are great (or if they're not great, why I Just like them). These are just the records that have been played more often in the past few months than any other.

Fleetwood Mac: Tusk

Lindsey Buckingham: Law & Order

Francoise Hardy: If You Listen

Cocteau Twins: Blue Bell Knoll

The Curtain Hits The Cast by Low

Midlake: Trials Of Van Occupanther
(Let it be known that this album has not one weak song. I never thought I'd fall in love with it the way that I have)

Ornette Coleman: Skies Of America

…and the comics that I'm reading (both graphic novels and series that are out now)…

Booster Gold (The Current Run)

Berlin: City Of Stones by Jason Lutes

Doom Patrol: The Grant Morrison/Richard Case run

I'll probably end up touching upon the plethora of other comics and albums that I'm listening to in future posts. Until then, I hope all of you are still enjoying the music!

Go Birds

Well played Eagles, Well Played. I may not be the first to admit this, but I didn't see you guys getting this far. Equally promising is the Sixers in their last win, and the Flyers, who won their last game and hold third place in their division.

All around good job guys.

First song from album 38, my shortest in a very long time.

As proof that we don't always suck

The sixers had a great game last night, beating Houston 104-96 (The rockets, mind you, are quite a good team). Between this, and the Eagles, I'm feeling pretty happy about Philadelphia sports.

Here's a song from the album 36:
D.R.A. III: T.F.T.W.C.G.

Chad, Chad, Chad…what a good run we had.

With respect to the comeback this season, I suppose I shouldn't be too disappointed with the Fin's loss yesterday.
They made it farther than anyone would've expected, leaving behind two other, sober, but probably equally disappointed teams in their path (Bret Farve Jets, and the Patriots).

Ultimately, they got destroyed by the Ravens. The Ravens are a tough team, and it was certainly a tough season.
Here's to you Chad, and the comeback team of the year.

In other news, lets go eagles!
